Introduction

Princess Yongning (March 11, 1567 – July 22, 1594), whose personal name was Zhu Yaoying, was a member of the Ming Dynasty imperial family. She was the fourth daughter of Emperor Muzong of Ming, and her mother was Consort Li. The princess was born on the first day of the second lunar month in the first year of the Longqing era (March 11, 1567). On the 21st day of the second month of the tenth year of the Wanli reign (March 15, 1582), she was granted the title of Princess Yongning Chang and was designated to be wed by the eunuch Feng Bao from the Imperial Ancestral Tribute Office. Ultimately, a young man from a wealthy Beijing family, Liang Bangrui, was chosen as her husband. However, during the wedding ceremony, Liang Bangrui experienced a nosebleed. After marriage, Liang Bangrui was extorted and beaten by eunuchs and palace maids, and he died less than two months later on May 9, 1594. Princess Yongning never entered her inner chambers for the rest of her life. She passed away on the fifth day of the sixth lunar month in the 22nd year of Wanli (July 22, 1594), at the age of 27.
