Introduction

Shotaro Kishida (born January 14, 1991) is a Japanese politician belonging to the Liberal Democratic Party. He was born in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Keio University. He is the eldest son of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko, and has two younger brothers. He has previously served as an aide to the Prime Minister and as an employee at Mitsui & Co. On October 4, 2022, he was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff responsible for administrative affairs—a position first held by a child of the Prime Minister since Tatsuya Fukuda. On June 1, 2023, he hosted a year-end party at the Prime Minister's official residence, where he was photographed on a staircase covered with a red carpet, in a manner similar to a cabinet formation photo. His actions were considered irresponsible, leading him to resign from his position as Chief of Staff; his successor was Takayoshi Yamamoto. Additionally, there have been reports that he wore headphones while riding a bicycle in Hiroshima Prefecture, which was deemed a violation of traffic regulations, resulting in a formal complaint.
