Introduction

Ma Zhan, of Manchu Aisin Gioro clan, is the grandson of Nurhaci, the founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty. He is the sixth son of Dorgon (Lilei Prince) and his mother was the Ci Fushun Hadalan clan. He was born on August 9, 1612 (the 40th year of Emperor Wanli, the 13th day of the 7th lunar month) and died on December 29, 1638 (the 3rd year of Chongde, the 25th day of the 11th lunar month).

His father was the sixth son of Li Lie Prince Dorgon, and his mother was from the Hadalan clan. In 1635, he accompanied the Qing army led by Dodo from Guangning into Ningyuan and Jinzhou to hinder the Ming army. He distinguished himself in this campaign. In 1636, the first year of Chongde, he followed Ajige into the Great Wall, where the army reached Anzhou and captured twelve cities. After retreating, Emperor Taiji trained troops outdoors, granted him a golden goblet of wine, and bestowed him the title of Fu Guogong (Assisting State Prince). In 1638, during the third year of Chongde, he followed Yutuo to destroy the border town from the Qiangzi Ridge, entered Miyun with his troops, captured Taibao Fortress consecutively, and then crossed over Yanjing heading straight to Shandong, where he passed away among the troops. In 1639, his body was returned with the main army, and the court granted him 2,000 taels of silver and one camel.

Ma Zhan had no children and did not establish any heirs.
