Introduction
Henry Pakenham was born on 24 August 1787 and died on 26 December 1863. He served as the Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin from 1843 until his death. He was the ninth child and fifth son of Edward Michael Pakenham, the 2nd Baron Longford. Pakenham received his education at Trinity College, Dublin.
His familial connections include his sister, who was married to Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington. Pakenham married Eliza Catherine Sandford, whose parents were Reverend William Sanford and Jane Oliver. Eliza was also related to Henry Sandford, the 2nd Baron Mount Sandford, being his sister. Her paternal grandfather was Stephen Moore, the 1st Viscount Mountcashell, and her maternal grandfather was Silver Oliver, an Irish Member of Parliament and Privy Counsellor.
Henry and Eliza Catherine Sandford had four children: three sons named Henry, William, and Hamilton, and a daughter named Emily.
