Introduction

Fuhui, originally named Hongsheng, was born on November 27, 1721, according to the date recorded in the tenth day of the tenth lunar month of the 60th year of Kangxi (1721). He was one of the princes of the Qianlong Emperor's lineage. His biological mother was Imperial Noble Consort Dun Su, of the Yan clan. According to historical records, Fuhui was the sixth son of the Qianlong Emperor, but in practice the eighth son; however, he died early and did not appear in the official hierarchy of legitimate or illegitimate children. As for his education and official positions, existing materials do not specify details regarding his schooling or any service in governmental or military roles.

Regarding his name changes, shortly after birth, during his childhood, he underwent a name change. In the fourth year of the Yongzheng reign (1726), his name was changed to Fuhui. Additionally, according to the "Yongzheng Era Residence Register," his name is also recorded as "Fuhui" with the character "Fu" (富) instead of "Fu" (福). The specific reasons for this name change are not detailed in current sources; however, such name changes among the imperial clan in the Qing Dynasty were not uncommon, often related to age, rank, clan arrangements, or official record-keeping needs.

Fuhui's lifespan was relatively short. He died early in the sixth year of Yongzheng (1728), on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, at approximately 8 years old. His early death prevented him from participating in court politics or affairs of the royal clan, and thus no personal political or official activities are recorded in historical materials. Details about his relationship with his biological mother, his siblings, his life in the palace, or family environment are sparse in publicly available records.

Posthumously, in 1735 (the thirteenth year of Yongzheng), the Kangxi Emperor (known posthumously as Emperor Gaozong of Qing) bestowed upon him the title of Prince and gave him the posthumous name "Huan" (怀). This posthumous ennoblement was an honor extended to members of the royal family, signifying his standings within the noble hierarchy and serving as a formal commemoration of his lineage.

In summary, Fuhui was a member of the Qing imperial clan, born in 1721 to Consort Dun Su of the Yan clan. His original name was Hongsheng; he was renamed Fuhui (also recorded as Fuhui with different characters) in 1726. He died in 1728 at around 8 years of age. In 1735, he was posthumously elevated and given the title "Huan" by the Kangxi Emperor. Most of this information is derived from the "History of Qing" (Qingshi Gao, Volume 220) and related genealogical documents.
