Introduction
Yongzhang (永璋), born on 15 July 1735 and died on 26 August 1760, was a prince during the Qing Dynasty in China. He was the third son of the Qianlong Emperor and Consort Chun. His birth took place in the Manor of Prince Bao, and his father was Hongli, known as Prince Bao of the First Rank. His mother was Lady Su, who held the title of mistress (庶福晋).
Yongzhang's health was compromised by lung disease, a condition that affected both his mother and sister. Specific details suggest his mother experienced hemoptysis. As a result of his health issues, Yongzhang was not particularly proficient at horse riding. When he was 15 years old and critically ill, the Qianlong Emperor ordered lamas to pray for his recovery. In 1748, he was assigned the responsibility of overseeing the mourning ritual for Empress Xiaoxianchun. During the funeral, Yongzhang's behavior led to his removal from the line of succession, along with his brother Yonghuang.
In 1759, Yongzhang’s mother, Imperial Noble Consort Chunhui, became ill at the Chengde Mountain Resort. He transported her back to Beijing. He died a year later in 1760. Posthumously, he was awarded the title "Prince Xun of the Second Rank."
Regarding his family, Yongzhang was married to lady Borjigin, daughter of Heshuo Princess Shushen and Guanyinbao. They had a son and a daughter; however, his son died prematurely, and his daughter did not inherit the peerage due to her marriage. His lineage was continued through Yongxing’s son, Mianyi.
Yongzhang’s primary consort belonged to the Khorchin Borjigin clan (嫡福晋). He also had secondary consorts, including one from the Wanyan clan (侧福晋) and another from the Gūwalgiya clan (侧福晋). His first daughter, Lady of the Second Rank (县君), was born on 29 July 1755 and died on 24 March 1777. She married Danba Dorji of the Harqin Ulanghaigimot clan.
His family relationships include:
- His first son, born 19 January 1756, died 14 February 1756.
- His daughter, Lady of the Second Rank, was his only surviving child among his direct descendants.
Yongzhang's life was marked by health challenges and familial responsibilities, and his titles and lineage were affected by the early death of his heirs and the circumstances of his marriage.
