Introduction
Lu Yanhong, a Hong Kong-based individual from a family with roots in Hong Kong. Her husband was Chen Qiuda, who served as an engineer in the Housing Department’s Building Services of the Hong Kong government, and he was investigated in 2000 on suspicion of corruption. Reports say that Lu Yanhong and Chen Qiuda’s son is Hong Kong singer Eason Chan.
Eason Chan began a relationship with actress Xu Hao-ying in 1996; in 2004 they had a daughter, Chen Kangdi, and in 2006 the couple formally registered their marriage. Lu Yanhong’s relationship with the two of them has attracted public attention.
Regarding residence and contact, a 2008 report stated that after Lu Yanhong moved to the United Kingdom, her contact with Eason Chan and his mother Xu Hao-ying declined significantly, a situation that continued until 2017. The media often attributed the mother–son estrangement to geographical distance and family conflicts. Information disclosed in December 2017 showed that during the wedding preparations of Eason Chan and Xu Hao-ying, Lu Yanhong objected to the price of the planned wedding house; her admonitions led to a public dispute, and Lu Yanhong did not attend her son's wedding. Since then, the mother–son relationship was still described as estranged, and after Lu Yanhong moved to the United Kingdom, contact between mother and son was reduced.
As for Lu Yanhong’s natal family, a 2008 report revealed that her mother, Cheng Yuxian, lived alone in Hong Kong in old age, earning a living by collecting scrap. Cheng Yuxian left Eason Chan’s home due to a poor relationship with daughter-in-law Xu Hao-ying. When Cheng Yuxian died in 2008, Xu Hao-ying did not attend the funeral. Lu Yanhong’s connections with her maternal relatives continued from the 2000s into the early 2010s, but were relatively sparse.
