Introduction
Henry Pitt Cholmondeley was born on 15 June 1820 in Whitegate, Cheshire, England. He was the son of Thomas Cholmondeley, 1st Baron Delamere. Cholmondeley received his education at Rugby School before attending Christ Church, Oxford. He obtained his Master of Arts degree in 1841 and subsequently became a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford.
In the realm of sports, Cholmondeley participated in first-class cricket. He played for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in a match against Oxford University at Oxford in 1844. During the match, he batted twice. In the first innings, he was dismissed for 4 runs by Henry Moberly, and in the second innings, he opened the batting and was dismissed for the same score by the same bowler.
Cholmondeley was ordained within the Church of England. In 1852, he was appointed rector of Broadwell with Adlestrop in Gloucestershire. In 1877, he was designated an honorary canon of Gloucester Cathedral. He served in this ecclesiastical capacity until his death.
Henry Pitt Cholmondeley died on 14 April 1905 at the rectory in Adlestrop. He was married to Mary Leigh, and the couple had nine children. Among their descendants was Lionel Berners Cholmondeley, who became a historian.
