Introduction
Masami Takigawa, born in 1977 in Paris, France, is a news anchor with Japanese and French heritage. Her father is French, and her mother is Japanese. During her childhood, she moved multiple times with her family and lived in Paris, Kobe, and Tokyo. Many of her family members have backgrounds in the entertainment industry or politics, including her grandfather, Kōzō Takigawa, who was a city councilor, and her great-grandmother, Inazuma Takigawa, a pioneer of the women's movement in Japan. Her younger brother, Takeshi Takigawa, is a model and actor; her cousin, Yōko Meguro, is a freelance journalist; and her other cousin, Eiji Takigawa, is an actor.
She attended Setagaya Kurihara Junior High School in Tokyo, then went on to Aoyama High School in Tokyo, and ultimately graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University with a degree in French literature. After graduating in 2000, she took the entrance exam for Fuji Television but was not accepted. However, she was assigned to work at the affiliated Kyōdō Television, joining alongside colleagues Yukiyo Andō and Rie Aikawa. Due to her Western appearance, she initially performed under her real name, Masami Takigawa, but later changed her stage name to Christine Takigawa for image reasons.
Throughout her career, Masami Takigawa has hosted several news programs, including serving as a news anchor for Fuji TV's "News Japan" starting in 2002. During her first broadcast, she was nervous and her body trembled, but she still received positive feedback. She is well known for smiling at viewers at a 45-degree angle. Three years later, she returned to Kyōdō Television, signed an exclusive contract, and in 2007 became a co-host of "Shin Hōdō Premiere A." In 2008, she signed with Phonics, an agency formed jointly by Fuji TV, Kyōdō Television, and cent. Force, transferring officially from Kyōdō Television.
In 2013, Masami Takigawa served as Tokyo's Olympic bid ambassador, attending the 125th IOC Session to present Tokyo's bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tokyo was ultimately selected to host the 2020 games. Her family background is notable: her great-grandfather, Kōzō Takigawa, was a politician, and her great-grandmother, Inazuma Takigawa, was a women's movement pioneer. Many of her family members work in entertainment or politics, including her brother Takeshi Takigawa, cousin Yōko Meguro, and cousin Eiji Takigawa.
In her personal life, there have been reports about her marriage—her prospective groom is the son of renowned conductor Seiji Ozawa, actor Seiji Ozawa. It is reported that the two began dating in 2009, though there were some difficulties along the way. In 2019, she was reported to have married Liberal Democratic Party politician Shinjiro Koizumi, and she was five months pregnant at that time. In November 2023, she announced the birth of her second child.
