Introduction

Zhenjing Jingfei, also known as Zhang Jingfei, was born roughly in the 15th century and passed away after the 1450s. She was from Xiangfu County, Kaifeng Prefecture, Shenxian Province, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Personnel and Military Affairs. Her father was Zhang Fu, who was posthumously granted the title of Duke of Britain, and her mother was the daughter of Zhang Fu. Her grandfather was Zhang Yu, a general of the Jingnüan Campaign who died in the Battle of Dongchang. The exact time of Zhang's birth and entry into the palace remains unclear.

On October 8, 1424 (the 22nd year of the Yongle Era), Emperor Renzong of Ming, Zhu Gaochi, officially declared Zhang as Empress, but her name was not recorded among the consorts at that time. In the following year, on the seventh day of the third lunar month (March 7, 1425), Zhang was bestowed the title of Jingfei. The edict detailing her enshrinement provides comprehensive information about her official rank and designation.

Zhang Jingfei died on the 29th day of the fifth lunar month of the first year of Hongxi (1425), at the age of 47. In July of that year, Ming Xuan Zong posthumously honored her with the title of Zhenjing Jingfei. Additionally, she, along with Consorts Li Xianfei and Zhao Huifei, was granted exemption from being buried with others in a joint burial as a special favor. Her burial site is located at Jingshan in Beijing. According to records of tomb management in the first year of the Tianshun era (1457), her death must have occurred after February 6, 1452.
