Introduction

Shen Pin Shao Shi (Shinpin Shōshi, date of death unknown) was a concubine of Emperor Taichang during the Ming Dynasty. There are no existing records regarding her place of origin or her birth year.

In July of the 48th year of Wanli (1620), Emperor Wanli died, and Emperor Taichang ascended the throne. However, he died the following month, leading to a very short reign for Taichang. After Emperor Taichang's death, Emperor Tianqi took the throne, and many court officials, including Shao Shi, were exiled. Subsequently, Shao Shi gave birth to a daughter, who died young. She was not officially granted a formal title or name at the time, and no tomb was constructed for her.

In the 7th year of Chongzhen (1634), Shao Shi was summoned by Emperor Chongzhen and officially awarded the title "Shenpin of the Guangmiao" (Respectful Consort of Guangmiao). This title is derived from Emperor Taichang’s temple name, Guangzong. Her nephew, Shao Wenqi, was bestowed the official rank of a fifth-grade Jin Yiwei Qianhu (Imperial Bodyguard Captain). Shao Shi's daughter was posthumously memorialized alongside the tomb of Princess Huaisu, the eldest sister of Emperor Tianqi. Furthermore, in the 14th year of Chongzhen (1641), her daughter was further bestowed the name Zhu Huiqing and posthumous title "Dow Weng Princess" (悼温公主).

In March of the 17th year of Chongzhen (1644), when the rebel army led by Li Zicheng invaded the Forbidden City, Shao Shi fled to her family home. After the Qing Dynasty took over, government authorities took measures to provide for her support.

Her children include Zhu Huiqing (Dow Weng Princess), born in 1621, with her date of death unknown. She was Emperor Taichang’s tenth daughter.

Biographical sources about her include the “Veritable Record of Emperor Shizu of the Qing,” “Chongzhen Chronicles,” “Chunming Mengyu Lu” Volume 29, and “Siege and Defense Record,” among others.
