Introduction

Captain John Robert Jenkinson (circa 1734 – 1 May 1805) was a British Army officer, courtier, and Member of Parliament. He was born as the third son of Colonel Charles Jenkinson. His elder brother was Charles Jenkinson, 1st Earl of Liverpool. Education details indicate he attended Charterhouse School.

In his courtier roles, Jenkinson served as a Page of Honour to King George II from 1748 to 1752. Subsequently, he held the position of gentleman usher to the Queen from 1761 until his death. He also served as the second (or Ulster) secretary to the Lord Lieutenant in Ireland during 1773–75 and in 1775 was joint secretary to the Lord Lieutenant in England.

Regarding his military career, Jenkinson was appointed a Cornet in the 2nd Troop of Horse Guards in 1752. He attained the rank of captain in 1762. In 1765, he transferred to the 12th Dragoons as a captain. He retired from military service in 1773.

Jenkinson served as a Member of Parliament for Corfe Castle from 1768 to 1780.

He married Frances Barker in 1778, who was the daughter of Rear-Admiral John Barker. The couple had five children: four sons and one daughter. Their children included Sir Charles Jenkinson, 10th Baronet, and John Jenkinson, who became the Bishop of St David's. Their daughter, Frances, married Sir William Boothby, 8th Baronet.

John Robert Jenkinson died in Winchester on 1 May 1805.
