Introduction

Charles Churchill (circa 1720 – 1812) was a British Member of Parliament with familial connections to notable military and political figures. He was the only son of Lieutenant-General Charles Churchill and the actress Anne Oldfield. His paternal grandfather, also named Charles Churchill, served as a British army officer and was a brother of John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough.

Churchill was elected to the House of Commons in the 1741 general election as the representative for the borough of Stockbridge in Hampshire. He held this parliamentary seat until the next general election in 1747. In that year, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Milborne Port; however, this election resulted in a double return, and he was not seated as a member for that constituency.

In the 1754 general election, Churchill was elected as MP for Great Marlow in Buckinghamshire. He held this seat until the subsequent election in 1761. His political career thus included service in three different parliamentary constituencies at different times.

He was married to Lady Maria Walpole, the daughter of Robert Walpole, who served as the Prime Minister of Great Britain. The marriage produced at least two daughters. Mary Churchill became the second wife of Charles Cadogan, 1st Earl Cadogan, and they had offspring. Sophia Churchill married Horatio Walpole, 2nd Earl of Orford, and also had children.

Details of Churchill’s later life and specific contributions during his terms as MP are not provided in the available information.
