Introduction
Kei Moriya (born March 24, 1986) is a Japanese entrepreneur and a director of the nonprofit organization "Doctors Without Borders Children" (Kokkyō Naki Kodomotachi). He is currently employed by Nippon Yusen KK (NYK Line).
Life and Career
He was born in Tokyo. His father is Osamu Moriya, a former bureaucrat of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). His mother, Kimie Moriya, serves as the executive director of Doctors Without Borders Children. From 1989 to 1992, his family lived in Boulogne-Billancourt, near the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. During this period, Kei attended a kindergarten in Paris from 1989 until July 1992 and graduated from there.
After returning to Japan, he attended Shirogane Elementary School in Minato ward, Tokyo, followed by Takanawa Junior and Senior High School. During high school, he spent a short-term study abroad at an international school in Switzerland. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Faculty of Literature at Keio University. While in university, he also had the opportunity to study abroad briefly at the University of Oxford.
In March 2005, Kei became a member of Doctors Without Borders Children and later was appointed as a director. He graduated from Keio University in 2009 and subsequently joined Nippon Yusen KK, where his grandfather, Kaneyoshi Moriya, served as Managing Director.
Family and Marriage
His father, Osamu Moriya, is a former bureaucrat of Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry, and has held roles such as President of Indo-Brazil Ethanol Co., Ltd. and Senior Executive Officer of Japan Alcohol Sales Co., Ltd. His mother, Kimie Moriya, is active as a director of Doctors Without Borders and as vice-chairperson and executive director of Doctors Without Borders Children.
Kei's wife is Ayako Moriya, a member of the Takamado family (the third daughter of Prince Kuni Kunihiro). The couple became acquainted through their involvement in activities related to Doctors Without Borders; they reunited in November 2017 at the organization's 20th anniversary celebration, where Ayako introduced Kei.
Relatives
His grandfather, Kaneyoshi Moriya, served as Managing Director of Nippon Yusen, head of the London branch, chairman of the Japanese School in London, and vice-president of the International Chamber of Shipping. His father, Osamu Moriya, served as President of Indo-Brazil Ethanol Co., Ltd. and as Senior Executive Officer of Japan Alcohol Sales.
Other relatives include Dr. Tatsuya Kondo, a physician who served as the former director of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine. Kondo participated as a mediator in the wedding rites.
