Introduction

Sir Harry Julian Stonor was born on 17 November 1859. He was the son of Hon. Francis Stonor and Eliza Peel. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Stonor, the 3rd Baron Camoys, and his maternal grandfather was Sir Robert Peel, a Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In 1881, he was granted the style and precedence of the younger son of a baron by Royal Warrant, following his brother Francis's succession to the barony.

Stonor embarked on a career in the Royal Household in 1883, serving as a Gentleman Usher and Quarterly Waiter to Queen Victoria. He held these positions until the queen's death in 1901. Afterward, he became Groom in Waiting to King Edward VII and continued in this role during the king's reign until 1910. He served similarly in the Household of King George V from 1910 to 1936.

Between 1918 and 1921, he held the position of Deputy Master of the Royal Household. From 1924 to 1939, he was Secretary and Registrar of the Order of Merit. Additionally, he served as Extra Groom-in-Waiting to King Edward VIII in 1936 and to King George VI in 1937.

In recognition of his service, Stonor was invested as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in 1933. He also received the honor of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. Throughout his life, he maintained religious devotion as a Roman Catholic.

Sir Harry Julian Stonor died unmarried on 5 May 1939.
