Introduction
Colonel William Thompson was the father of Martha Thompson, who was born in 1679 and died in 1762. Through his daughter Martha, he was the grandfather of Zachary Taylor, born in 1707 and died in 1768, who later served as the President of the United States from 1849 to 1850. Richard Taylor, an officer in the American Revolutionary War from 1744 to 1829, was the son of Zachary Taylor, and Zachary Taylor was the son of Martha Thompson.
