Introduction
Taku Yamamoto, born on July 7, 1952, is a Japanese politician affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party. He serves as a Member of the House of Representatives and is a fifth-term legislator. His political career began when he was elected as a member of the Fukui Prefectural Assembly, securing consecutive terms in the second session. Yamamoto comes from a family with a notable political lineage; his father, Osamu Yamamoto, served as the mayor of Kesennuma City, chairman of the Fukui Prefectural Assembly, and as the secretary-general of the LDP in Fukui Prefecture. His great-grandfather, Masao Yamamoto, was also a former member of the Fukui Prefectural Assembly.
In his personal life, Taku Yamamoto married Sanae Takaichi, also a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, in 2004. Their wedding was attended with congratulations from prominent politicians including the then Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori. During their marriage, Yamamoto and Takaichi formed a "couple legislators" duo, actively supporting each other in local elections. They divorced in 2017, reportedly due to political disagreements.
Despite their divorce, the two have continued to cooperate politically. After their separation, they jointly advocated for amendments to the Political Funds Control Law concerning related-party enterprises, demonstrating their alignment on certain political issues. Yamamoto has been actively involved in local elections and legislative revisions, highlighting his ongoing engagement in political affairs.
Beyond his political activities, Yamamoto’s family background underscores his solid political foundation, with both his father and grandfather having held significant local government positions. His wife, Sanae Takaichi, also holds considerable influence in Japanese politics as a member of the House of Representatives of the LDP.
