Introduction
A Bai (Manchu: ᠠᠪᠠᡳ, transcribed as: Abai; September 8, 1585 – February 21, 1648) was the third son of Nurhaci, the founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty. He was born on the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the thirteenth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. His mother was a concubine of the Zhaojia clan. In the tenth year of the Tianming era (1625), A Bai, together with Tagai and Babu Tai, led an expedition against the Huerhe troops in the northern part of the Donghai route, capturing fifteen hundred households. On the return journey, Nurhaci personally went out to meet and commend him, granting him the official title of Niu Lu Zhang Jing.
In the eighth year of the Tiancong era (1634), he was appointed as Mele Ejen. In the third year of Chongde (1638), he was promoted to Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs of the Ministry of Personnel. In the fourth year of Chongde (1639), he was awarded the title of Third-Class Zhen Guo Jiang Jun (Marshal of the State). In the sixth year of Chongde (1641), he was responsible for garrisoning Jinzhou. In the eighth year of Chongde (1643), he was relieved of his duties as Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs due to old age. In the fourth year of Shunzhi (1647), he was promoted to Second-Class Zhen Guo Jiang Jun. He died on February 21, 1648. In the tenth year of Shunzhi (1653), the court posthumously awarded him the title of Zhen Guo Gong (Marquis of the State) with the style name Qinmin.
Regarding his descendants, A Bai had seven sons, three of whom obtained noble titles. Gong An inherited A Bai's title and was promoted to Third-Class Zhen Guo Jiang Jun, and later elevated to Fu Guo Gong (Duke of Assistance to the State).
