Introduction
Chen Lishen, male, born in 1927 and passed away on January 15, 2021, at the age of 94. His life mainly involved personal family affairs, health issues, and his relationships with political figures. His funeral procedures were carried out discreetly.
In terms of family relationships, Chen Lishen had close ties with Chen Shui-bian. According to publicly available information, he took a high-speed rail to Taichung Prison in 2013 to visit Chen Shui-bian, during which he tearfully called for Chen Shui-bian's release. Additionally, during the 2009 Chinese New Year, he was unable to celebrate with his family and instead kept vigil with his second son, Chen Wenshou, mentioning traditional red envelope customs. In 2025, Chen Lishen, accompanied by Democratic Progressive Party members, visited Chen Shui-bian in prison and brought zongzi (rice dumplings), at which time Chen Shui-bian displayed Zhao Mengfu's calligraphy works in prison.
Regarding his health, Chen Lishen fell at home in April 2020 and was hospitalized, with his health gradually deteriorating. By early 2021, he showed symptoms of dementia and could no longer recognize family members. In his final stages, he suffered from sepsis caused by pneumonia and multiple organ failure, leading to his death at 5:16 PM on January 15, 2021.
The arrangements for his funeral were modest. Reports indicate that Chen Shui-bian, respecting his wishes, held only a family memorial service without a public memorial. The Democratic Progressive Party tasked the Tainan City Party Department with assisting in managing his funeral affairs.
