Calvin Galusha Coolidge was born on September 22, 1815, in Plymouth, Vermont. His parents were Calvin Coolidge (1780–1853) and Sarah Thompson (1789–1856).

Throughout his life, Coolidge was engaged in farming and participated in local government activities. He held several local offices, including justice of the peace, constable, and selectman.

In the years 1860 and 1861, he served as a member of the Vermont House of Representatives.

Coolidge was the father of John Calvin Coolidge Sr., who also served in the Vermont General Assembly. He was the grandfather of Calvin Coolidge, who became the 30th President of the United States.

Calvin Galusha Coolidge died on December 15, 1878, in his hometown of Plymouth, Vermont, at the age of 63.
