Introduction
William Alfred Packard was born on August 26, 1830, in Brunswick, Maine. He was the son of Alpheus Spring Packard, Sr., an educator, and had a brother, Alpheus Spring Packard, who was an entomologist.
Packard attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, before graduating from Bowdoin College in 1851. He further pursued studies at the University of Göttingen in Germany during the years 1857 and 1858.
In his professional career, Packard taught at Dartmouth College from 1860 to 1870. Subsequently, he became a professor at Princeton University, where he held a faculty position.
He contributed writings to the Presbyterian Review and the Princeton Review, among other publications.
William Alfred Packard died on December 2, 1909, in Princeton, New Jersey, due to heart disease.
