Caixia Zhao

Zhao Caixia, a woman born in the early 1930s with an undisclosed birthplace, long resided in Toronto, Canada. She passed away in Toronto on May 25, 2020, at the age of 89, and her funeral was held on June 2 of the same year. Because the Canadian government had imposed entry restrictions to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, banning non-citizens and non-permanent residents from entering, Leung Ka-fai could not personally travel to Canada to bid farewell to his mother.

In terms of her career, Zhao Caixia once worked at a cinema as an usher and is also recorded as a ticket seller. She would often take Leung Ka-fai to her workplace when he was a child, and thus he was exposed to the cinema’s working environment, including projection equipment and screening procedures, gradually developing an interest in film. This experience has been publicly reported as part of Leung Ka-fai’s upbringing that contributed to his later career in the film industry.

Regarding family life, Zhao Caixia and her husband settled in Canada in their later years. Leung Ka-fai, due to his work, could not accompany his parents for extended periods, and he has expressed remorse, planning to move to Canada to live with his parents, but this ultimately did not come to pass.
