Introduction
Lord Frederick Michael George David Louis Windsor, born on 6 April 1979 at St Mary's Hospital in London, is a member of the British royal family. He is the only son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and is currently 54th in the line of succession to the British throne. He is married to British actress Sophie Winkleman.
He is a great-grandchild of King George V and Queen Mary, making him a second cousin of King Charles III. His familial relationships include being a first cousin once removed of Queen Elizabeth II and a first cousin twice removed of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Lord Frederick Windsor was christened on 11 July 1979 at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, Westminster. His upbringing was within the Church of England alongside his sister, Lady Gabriella Windsor.
His education includes attendance at Wetherby School in Sunningdale and Eton College, where he was an Oppidan Scholar. He pursued higher education at Magdalen College, Oxford, earning a 2:1 degree in Classics.
Following his graduation, Lord Frederick worked as a fashion model, participating in campaigns for Burberry and designer Tomasz Starzewski, and also worked as a music journalist, notably for Tatler magazine. Initially, he planned to become a solicitor specializing in entertainment law. By September 2006, he was working as an analyst in the wealth management division of JP Morgan in London. Later, he became a banker and is currently an executive director at JPMorgan Chase. He obtained the designation of CFA charterholder in 2013.
On 14 February 2009, Lord Frederick became engaged to actress Sophie Winkleman. Their marriage took place at Hampton Court on 12 September 2009, following the Queen's consent as required by the Royal Marriages Act 1772. The couple's first child, Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor, was born on 15 August 2013 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was baptized at St James’s Palace in December 2013, with Princess Eugenie among her godparents. Maud served as a bridesmaid at Princess Eugenie’s wedding in 2018.
On 20 January 2016, Lord Frederick and Lady Frederick announced the birth of their second daughter, Isabella Alexandra May, born on 16 January 2016 at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. Isabella was baptized at Kensington Palace in June 2016 with Jamie Oliver, a family friend, as one of her godparents.
From September 2016 until its closure in 2023, Lord Frederick served as president of the charity Soldier On!, which supported vulnerable and socially isolated individuals through archaeology, heritage projects, and personal development workshops. On 21 February 2017, he was inducted into the charitable fraternity Grand Order of Water Rats.
Regarding titles and styles, under letters patent issued in 1917, Lord Frederick's father is entitled to the style His Royal Highness and the dignity of prince, as the son of a son of George V. However, these letters do not extend such royal styles beyond grandchildren of monarchs, except for the children of the Prince of Wales. As the son of a son of a duke, Lord Frederick is styled as Lord Frederick Windsor. His titles are not hereditary, and he does not hold a peerage in his own right. His children do not have official the honorific prefix but follow him in the line of succession.
His honours include the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), the Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), the Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2023).
