Introduction

Yoshinori Makiguchi (former kanji: 牧口 義矩; December 12, 1876 – April 1, 1957) was a Japanese politician. He served two terms as a Member of the House of Representatives.

Life and Career

He was born in Arahama Village, Kambara District, Niigata Prefecture (present-day Arahama, Kashiwazaki City). His father was Yoshikata Makiguchi, who was engaged in the sailing freight business. It is recorded that he studied at Keio University.

Political Activities and Public Service

In local administration, he served as mayor of Arahama Village, a member of the Kambara District Assembly, a member of the same district's council, and its chairman. Additionally, in the field of education, he served as chairman of Arahama Village's Education Association.

In the economic sector, he also was active, serving as director of the Naoetsu Rice Exchange and as a director of Kashiwazaki Bank.

Electoral History

In the 11th general election for the House of Representatives in 1912 (Taisho 1), he ran as the Constitutional National Party candidate from the Niigata prefectural district but was not elected. Subsequently, in the 13th general election in 1917 (Taisho 6), he was endorsed by the Kenseikai and was elected.

In the 14th general election in 1920 (Taisho 9), he ran from Niigata 9th district and was re-elected. This marked his second term as a Member of Parliament. He did not run in the 15th general election in 1924.

Death

He passed away in 1957.

Family Relationships

His father was Yoshikata Makiguchi (also a Member of the House of Representatives). His elder sister, Tsuye, was the wife of Tsuruhide Ninomiya. His granddaughter, Hong, was the granddaughter of Kan’ichi Nakano, the head of the Nakano Zaibatsu. Also, his grandson Kōji’s wife, Sei, was the second daughter of Hong Nakano.

His younger sister, Kaoruko Koiso, was the wife of Kuniaki Koiso.

His wife was Chiyo, the eldest daughter of Tokujiro Ichijima, a member of the House of Peers.
