Introduction
Beizi Yongze, Manchu script: ᠶᡠᠩ ᠵᡝ; transliterated in Mandarin as: yung je; born March 30, 1741—died September 1, 1810. Posthumously honored as Gongke Beile (the fourth generation of the Hengqin Prince clan). Records indicate he was a noble member of the Hengqin Prince lineage; his mother was the concubine Yang, and his father was Yang Fengyu, the fifth generation of the Hengqin Prince line. Yongze was born in the sixth year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign, roughly corresponding to 1741 in the Gregorian calendar. Accounts of his family background state that he was the son of Hongsheng. In October of the 40th year of Qianlong’s reign (1775), Yongze was granted the title of “Bu Ruba Fen Fuguo Gong” (a duke not entering the eight-grade auxiliary state). In May of the 55th year of Qianlong (1790), he succeeded his cousin Yonghao as the fifth generation of the Hengqin Prince lineage. His status in the Hengqin line remained stable into the mid to late Qing dynasty. In August of the 15th year of Jiaqing (1810), Beizi Yongze passed away at the age of seventy. After his death, his third son, Mianjiang, inherited as the sixth generation of the Hengqin Prince lineage, but was required to descend to Feng’en Zhen Guogong (a noble title) as the successor. The arrangements above reflect Qing dynasty noble title systems, which regulated inheritance of lineage and ranks of peerage. Details regarding Yongze and his descendants are primarily based on the “Aisin Gioro Genealogy” (Aisin Gioro Zongpu).
