Introduction
The Honourable James Kenneth Howard was born on 5 March 1814 and died on 7 January 1882. He was a British politician affiliated with the Whig party. Howard was a member of the Howard family, being the fourth son of Thomas Howard, the 16th Earl of Suffolk, and Elizabeth Jane, the daughter of James Dutton, the 1st Baron Sherborne.
In 1841, Howard succeeded his elder brother, Viscount Andover, as Member of Parliament for Malmesbury. He held this parliamentary seat until 1852. From 1851 to 1882, he served as a Commissioner of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues.
In 1845, Howard married Lady Louisa, the daughter of Henry Petty-FitzMaurice, the 3rd Marquess of Lansdowne. James Howard and Lady Louisa had descendants, including their grandson Charles Howard-Bury, who was notable as an explorer and politician.
James Howard's death occurred in January 1882 at the age of 67. Lady Louisa Howard died in June 1906.
