James Monroe Heiskell was the son of Elizabeth Kortright Gouverneur Heiskell, who in turn was the daughter of Maria Hester Monroe Gouverneur. Maria Hester Monroe Gouverneur was the daughter of James Monroe, the President of the United States from 1817 to 1825.
