Mien-k'ing

Mianqing (綿慶), born on June 17, 1779, was a member of the Qing dynasty imperial family. He was the fifth son of Yongrong and a grandson of the Qianlong Emperor. His peerage was associated with the Prince Shen lineage, and he was the second person to hold the title of Prince Zhi of the Second Rank.

**Early Life and Education**

Mianqing was born to Lady Niohuru, the second primary princess consort Zhizhuang of the First Rank. He had one biological sister who held the title of Princess of the Fourth Rank. From a young age, Mianqing demonstrated talent and interest in the arts, particularly music. He received personal instruction in archery from his grandfather, the Qianlong Emperor.

**Achievements and Honors**

In 1793, during an imperial hunt in Rehe, Mianqing exhibited his archery skills by killing a wild boar with only three arrows, despite sustaining injuries in the process. This achievement was reported to the Qianlong Emperor, who expressed approval and awarded Mianqing with three-eyed peacock feathers and a yellow horse-riding jacket.

**Titles and Succession**

At approximately 11 years old, in 1790, Mianqing succeeded his father as Prince Zhi of the Second Rank. His tenure in this title lasted until his death in 1804.

**Relations and Family Connections**

Mianqing was married to Lady Niohuru, who was the daughter of Helin and a niece of Heshen, a notable official of the late Qianlong era. His marriage connected him to significant noble families within the Qing court. He had at least one son, Yiqi, who succeeded him after his death.

**Death and Posthumous Recognition**

Mianqing died on November 27, 1804. The circumstances of his death were related to the effects of an earlier injury. The Jiaqing Emperor expressed deep sorrow over his demise and granted 5,000 taels of silver for his funeral.

Posthumously, Mianqing was honored with the title Prince Zhi Ke of the Second Rank (質恪郡王), a designation signifying "talented and respectful." He was succeeded by his son Yiqi, who held the title of Prince of the Third Rank.
