Introduction

Qin Sheng was born in the 20th century, with his exact birth year unspecified. Throughout his career, he primarily engaged in the creation and promotion of meticulous gongbi painting. Having dedicated several decades to the field, Qin Sheng developed an artistic style characterized by “vibrant spiritual energy and profound artistic conception.” His works encompass a variety of subjects, including beauties, landscapes, flowers, and birds.

In terms of painting techniques, Qin Sheng frequently employed expressive ink wash methods, with his representative work "Tiger" created using this technique. The dimensions of this piece are 32x66 centimeters and 42.5x67 centimeters, respectively; the exact date of creation is unknown. In 1993, Qin Sheng won the first China Art Award grand prize. In 2000, he received the gold and silver awards at the World Chinese Art Exhibition for his works "Landscape" (two pieces).

His artistic achievements have been exhibited multiple times both domestically and internationally. In 2015, the Art Museum of Laoshan District in Qingdao held the "Tianyabaiyun Qin Sheng Gongbi Painting Exhibition," emphasizing the delicate craftsmanship of his gongbi work. In 2017, the Zhongtian Art Museum in Qingdao hosted a themed exhibition celebrating the 45th anniversary of China-Japan diplomatic relations. In 2018, the Lu Xun Art Academy Museum held a solo exhibition of Qin Sheng's gongbi paintings, showcasing 96 works covering calligraphy, landscapes, maidens, and birds-and-flowers themes.

In cultural exchange, Qin Sheng served as the director of the China Artists Japan Overseas Art Creation Center, actively promoting China-Japan artistic collaboration over the long term. In 1995, he moved to Japan, dedicating himself to spreading Chinese painting art and teaching ink wash techniques. His teaching focus is on exploring commonalities between Chinese and Japanese cultures, attempting to combine Japanese Ukiyo-e line techniques with Chinese gongbi and color rendering, thereby forming a cross-cultural creative style. His students are based in multiple countries and have held numerous exhibitions.

Family-wise, Qin Sheng’s son is actor Xia Yu, and his daughter-in-law is actress Yuan Yuan. By 2009, Xia Yu and Yuan Yuan planned to hold a wedding in Japan, partly because Qin Sheng has long resided in Japan.
