In 1950, Liu Yunbin graduated from the Soviet Steel Institute, married Mara, and had two children, Sonya and Alyosha. In 1955, he earned a doctoral degree, and in 1957, he returned to China to work at the China Atomic Energy Institute, but his marriage ended in divorce. In 1967, he was persecuted and died in Baotou; it was only in 1987 that his mother and son learned of his death.
