Introduction
Manibadala (Mongolian: ᠮᠠᠨᠢᠪᠠᠳᠠᠷᠠ, 18th century – 1832), from the Borjigit clan, a right-banner Tumet Mongol of Zhuosutu League, originating from what is now western Liaoning Province. A Mongolian prince and a titleholder during the Qing Dynasty.
Life:
In 1799, during the 4th year of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign, he was bestowed the title of Zhasag Bek (a noble title for Tumet Mongols). In November 1802, he married Princess Zhuang Jing Gu Luun, the fourth daughter of Emperor Jiaqing, becoming an Empress’ Appanage Prince (Efu), and was granted the purple reins. In January 1809, the 14th year of Jiaqing, he was awarded the yellow reins. Afterwards, he held positions such as Front Guard Commander and Mongol Dudu (chief) of the Zhenghong Banner. In 1825, during the 5th year of Emperor Daoguang, he was appointed to a grand ministerial position. In 1828, the 8th year of Daoguang, he was promoted to a prince of the first rank (junwang) and granted a dragon-patterned military uniform for the Fourth Banner. In 1831, the 11th year of Daoguang, he was conferred the title of Beile (prince). He died on November 9, 1832.
Family and Marriage:
His wife was Princess Zhuang Jing Gu Luun, a member of the Qing imperial family. Due to this marriage, he held the title of Efu and enjoyed associated ceremonial privileges. His great-grandson was Gonbu Zabu.
Occupations and Titles:
In military and governmental roles, he successively served as Front Guard Commander, Mongol Dudu of the Zhenghong Banner, and later was promoted to Grand Minister at the imperial court. In his later years, he was ennobled as a Beile (prince). His life spanned the reigns of Jiaqing and Daoguang emperors, involving affairs related to banner registration, military governance, and imperial marriage alliances. The last official record of his noble title before death was as Beile.
Family Status and Influence:
As a member of the Borjigit clan and a Mongol prince during the Qing dynasty, Manibadala held a significant position in political, military, and imperial marriage institutions. His great-grandson was Gonbu Zabu. The official date of his death is recorded as November 9, 1832.
