Introduction

Princess Anqing, personal name unknown, was a princess during the Ming dynasty in China. She was the fourth daughter of the Hongwu Emperor and his second wife, Empress Ma. Based on birth date estimates of her siblings Princess Ningguo, born in 1364, and Princess Huaiqing, born in 1367, Princess Anqing was likely born between 1365 and 1367.

In 1381, Princess Anqing was married to Ouyang Lun, a man of common social origin. This marriage was notable as it was the first recorded instance of a princess of the Hongwu era marrying outside the traditional aristocratic or noble families, which was contrary to the typical practice of the early empire. The marriage took place on December 23, 1381.

Ouyang Lun gained notoriety for his involvement in corrupt activities. During the late Hongwu period, despite strict regulations controlling the tea trade, he engaged in private smuggling operations across Shaanxi and Sichuan. These activities contributed to social disorder and economic disruption. His household servant, Zhou Bao, was known for violent behavior and frequently used Ouyang Lun's influence to oppress local communities. Zhou Bao was involved in incidents such as seizing goods by force and assaulting government inspectors at a river bridge checkpoint in Lanzhou. These actions drew the ire of the Hongwu Emperor.

On July 23, 1397, Ouyang Lun was executed following an imperial order. The emperor also ordered the death of Zhou Bao and his accomplices. Ouyang Lun remains the only consort of a Ming princess to have been formally sentenced to death under imperial law. It is unclear what happened to Princess Anqing after her husband's execution, and there are no surviving records indicating whether she had children during their sixteen-year marriage.
