Introduction
Cai Zhuan, born in 1928 in China. In 1938 she went to live at the Ivankovo International Children’s Home in the Soviet Union. From 1941 to 1945, during the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, she participated in rear-area labor support for the front lines. In 1946, she was admitted without an entrance examination to the Medical Department of the Second Moscow State Stalin Medical Institute, graduated in 1953, and after graduation returned to China, working in Beijing and Wuhan.
Career: Cai Zhuan long served in the Department of Neurology at Wuhan Tongji Hospital, and before retirement she held the posts of professor and chief physician. In 1956 she joined the Communist Party of China and participated in the research project on “the etiology of Leptospira infection and arteritis and its relation to Moyamoya disease,” publishing five related papers. The research成果 she conducted jointly with her husband, Professor Liu Ximin, on “the etiology of Leptospira infection and arteritis and its relation to Moyamoya disease,” has practical value in the prevention and control of rural children’s cerebral palsy in the Hubei region.
Honors: In 2019 Cai Zhuan was awarded the commemorative badge “Victory Day of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission. By 2020 she had received the Russian Federation’s Medal for the Victory in the Great Patriotic War five times. In January 2021, Shao Xinyu, party secretary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and a delegation visited Professor Cai Zhuan to convey the central leadership’s care.
