Phebe Caniff

Phebe Caniff, born in 1786 and deceased in 1823, was the mother of Maria Riggs, who was born on September 12, 1806, and died on January 4, 1895. Maria Riggs was the mother of Royal Houghton Doud, born in Turin, New York, on February 6, 1836, and died on November 13, 1901. Royal Houghton Doud was the father of John Sheldon Doud, born on November 10, 1870, in Boone, Iowa, and died on June 20, 1951, in Denver, Colorado. John Sheldon Doud was a meatpacking executive with investments in Illinois and Iowa stockyards who retired at age 36. He married Elivera Mathilda Carlson in 1891. Their daughter, Mamie Eisenhower, was the First Lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961, as the wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was President during the same period.
