Yoshie Koizumi

Yoshie Kozumi was born into the prominent Japanese political family, the Kozumi family. Her father was Yuzukiro Kozumi, a renowned politician active from the Meiji era through the Showa era, who served as a member of the House of Representatives and held positions such as Minister of Communications. The Kozumi family gradually established significant influence in Japanese politics through political marriages and wealth accumulation.

Yoshie Kozumi was born as the illegitimate child of Yuzukiro Kozumi. She refused an arranged marriage by her father and chose to elope with Jundo Sakoshima, an office worker from the Constitutional Liberal Party. With her father's consent, Jundo Sakoshima changed his name to Junya Kozumi and became a family member. Through his own efforts and support from the family, Junya Kozumi was successfully elected as a member of parliament and served in important positions such as Minister of Defense, becoming the second-generation political representative of the family.

Among Yoshie Kozumi and Junya Kozumi's children, the most well-known is Junichiro Kozumi. He was raised in the family’s political atmosphere from a young age, inheriting the family’s political traditions. Junichiro Kozumi was elected as Japan’s 87th Prime Minister in 2001 and was re-elected three times in succession. During his tenure, he implemented numerous policy reforms, consolidating his family’s influence in Japanese politics.

As of 2024, the Kozumi family has achieved three consecutive generations serving as Members of Parliament and holding cabinet positions, making them one of the most influential families in Japanese political circles.
