Introduction
Masayoshi Takagi was a noble during the late Edo period, serving as the 13th and final lord (shizoku) of Tanno Domain in Kawachi Province. His rank was Junior Fifth Rank, Hizen no Kami. After the Meiji Restoration, he was granted the peerage of viscount.
Biography:
He was born as the second son of a senior hatamoto (bannerman) and lordal branch family, Morinari Takagi. Details regarding his father's birthplace and birth year are unknown. His formal wife was Tsuneko, the second daughter of Terutada Matsudaira. His children included his eldest son, Masatoku Takagi. The specific birth date of Masayoshi Takagi is not known.
Because the previous domain lord, Masatane Takagi, had no heir, Masayoshi became his adoptive successor and inherited the family headship. On November 18, 1869 (Meiji 2), following Masatane's retirement, he succeeded as domain lord and assumed the position of official territory governor (chikushōji). His tenure as domain lord spanned from the late Edo period through the tumultuous era of the Meiji Restoration.
With the abolition of domains and establishment of prefectures in 1871 (Meiji 4), Tanno Domain was abolished, and Takagi was relieved of his official duties.
Subsequently, on July 8, 1884 (Meiji 17), he was awarded the title of viscount (shishaku). This peerage was granted based on evaluations of his family lineage and standing by the Imperial Government.
He was elected as a member of the House of Peers on July 10, 1897 (Meiji 30), and served until July 9, 1911 (Meiji 44). Specific details regarding his activities or how he was elected are not available.
He died either on January 27 or November 27, 1920. His age at death is estimated to be 68.
In terms of family connections, he was a grandfather to Yuriko, Princess Mikasa, consort of Prince Takahito of Mikasa.
Various historical records and documents about him are available, but Portraits and detailed personal information remain limited.
