Introduction

Henry Manvers Pierrepont was born on 18 March 1780 and died on 10 November 1851. He was an English diplomat who held the position of Envoy to the Court of Sweden from 1804 to 1807.

Pierrepont was the third son of Charles Pierrepont, 1st Earl Manvers, and his wife Anne, daughter of William Mills of Richmond, Surrey. He had two elder brothers, Evelyn Pierrepont and Charles Pierrepont, 2nd Earl Manvers.

In his diplomatic career, Pierrepont was appointed as Envoy to Sweden in 1804, a post he held until 1807. He was sworn into the Privy Council in 1807.

In 1818, Pierrepont married Lady Sophia Cecil, the daughter of Henry Cecil, 1st Marquess of Exeter. The couple resided at Conholt Park, Wiltshire. They had at least one daughter, Augusta Sophia Anne Pierrepont, who married Major-General Lord Charles Wellesley. Through this marriage, Pierrepont became the maternal grandfather of Henry Wellesley, 3rd Duke of Wellington, and Arthur Wellesley, 4th Duke of Wellington.

Lady Sophia Cecile passed away in 1823. Henry Manvers Pierrepont died in November 1851 at the age of 71. His memorial is located in St. Edmund's Church, Holme Pierrepont.
