Introduction
Xu Yunbei, courtesy name Yubei, was born in 1914 in a certain county in Shandong Province, China. He was a member of the Chinese Communist Party. Details about his birthplace and early education are not provided. In the spring of 1935, he began participating in the formation of the Shandong Western Front Committee of the CCP, serving as Secretary of the Western Front Committee and Minister of the Civilian Movement Department of the Western Front Committee. In the winter of 1945, he studied and worked successively at the Northern Bureau, the Central Research Office, and the first department of the Central Party School.
In March 1949, Xu Yunbei served as Secretary of the Temporary Area Party Committee that crossed the Yangtze River to the south and as Deputy Secretary of the Gannan Northeast District Party Committee. Subsequently, from the late 1930s to the mid-1940s, he gradually held multiple party and government positions. In November 1949, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Policy Research Office of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee. During the same period, he also served as Deputy Minister and Party Committee Secretary of the Ministry of Health.
During the Cultural Revolution, Xu Yunbei's political career was affected. In February 1965, he was appointed Minister and Party Committee Secretary of the Second Light Industry Ministry. In May 1973, he became a Standing Committee Member of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Beijing Revolutionary Committee. After 1973, in August 1980, he was promoted to Deputy Minister and Deputy Party Secretary of the Light Industry Ministry. He retired in May 1996.
Xu Yunbei was an important representative of the Chinese Communist Party. He was a delegate to the 7th and 8th National Congresses of the CCP, an ad hoc delegate to the 19th National Congress, and attended the 15th National Congress. He served as a representative in the 3rd National People's Congress, and as a Standing Committee member of the 6th and 7th National People's Congresses, and was a member of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the 7th National People's Congress.
On the night of January 6, 2018, Xu Yunbei passed away in Beijing due to illness at the age of 104. His death marked the end of a generation of party and government leaders.
