Zhu Yanlai

Zhu Yanlai, born in China, is the daughter of the late former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji. She has a solid academic background, having completed her undergraduate and master's studies in Philosophy at Renmin University of China. Subsequently, she furthered her education in Canada, earning a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan.

In her professional career, Zhu Yanlai has worked in securities-related roles at the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Montreal. In 1997, she joined the Bank of China, beginning her career in the financial industry. In April 2013, she was appointed Vice President of Bank of China (Hong Kong) (Holdings) Limited. Her responsibilities mainly involve management and operations within banking and finance sectors.

Additionally, Zhu Yanlai is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Since 2011, she has participated in the annual "Two Sessions" (National People's Congress and CPPCC sessions) each year. Her political involvement includes engagements in the economic, special invite, and educational sectors of the CPPCC. She believes that education is a vital field for the nation, closely related to broad societal well-being. She notes that despite China’s rapid economic growth and its status as the world's second-largest economy, there remain certain gaps and confusions concerning educational and cultural soft power.

In public appearances, Zhu Yanlai demonstrates humility and politeness. Though she speaks sparingly, she is willing to communicate with the media. During interviews, she shows approachability and handles questions from reporters politely. When asked about her views on educational development during the "Two Sessions," she candidly expressed her opinions, emphasizing the importance of education for the country’s future development.
