Introduction
Sir John Robert Gladstone, 3rd Baronet, was born on 26 April 1852 and died on 25 June 1926. He was the son of Sir Thomas Gladstone and Louisa Fellowes. His father, Sir Thomas Gladstone, was the elder brother of William Ewart Gladstone, who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Sir John Robert Gladstone attended the state funeral of his uncle, William Ewart Gladstone, in 1898. Throughout his life, he held several public and ceremonial roles. He was a Justice of the Peace in Kincardineshire and served as Lord Lieutenant for the same county, following a path similar to his father.
In terms of military service, Gladstone held the rank of captain in the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. Additionally, he was a brigadier in the Royal Company of Archers, an organization that functions as the royal bodyguard for Scotland and serves as the Sovereign's ceremonial unit in Scotland.
On 20 March 1889, he succeeded his father as the 3rd Baronet of Boscobel and Woodhouse. Throughout his lifetime, he held the hereditary title, which was passed on according to the conventions of the British aristocracy.
Sir John Robert Gladstone never married. Upon his death at the age of 74, the baronetcy was inherited by his cousin, John Evelyn Gladstone.
