Introduction
Long Shengxian, born in the early 20th century, was a person with a special status in modern Chinese history. In 1919, she married Nie Rongzhen according to the marriage customs of that time, and the two were distant cousins through a maternal relation. After marriage, Long Shengxian did not live with Nie Rongzhen again. During her marriage, she did not have any children.
In terms of education, Long Shengxian continued her studies after marriage, going to France in 1920 to participate in the work-study program. Afterwards, she dedicated herself to China’s revolutionary cause, gradually withdrawing from daily life with Nie Rongzhen. Nevertheless, in her later years, Nie Rongzhen continued to send her monthly living expenses as a sign of concern.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Long Shengxian settled in Jiangjin, Chongqing. The local government provided her with proper arrangements and living security. In her later years, she hung a photo of Nie Rongzhen in military uniform at her home to commemorate old times. Nie Rongzhen’s children also visited her to express their care.
Long Shengxian passed away in 1988. Her life spanned several key periods of China's historical changes, reflecting a unique historical relationship and personal experience.
