Introduction
Zaicheng (Chinese: 載澂) was born on September 12, 1858, and died on July 21, 1885. He was the eldest son of Yixin, Prince Gong, a prominent figure within the Qing imperial family.
He held the title of beile, a noble rank within the Qing aristocracy. Zaicheng served as Minister of Internal Affairs and was also a military commander in Mongolia during his lifetime.
In July 1873, the Qing court temporarily revoked Zaicheng's beile title. This disciplinary action was due to an incident involving Zaicheng and Tongzhi, during which they left the imperial palace to visit prostitutes in Beijing. Approximately one month after this incident, his title was restored to its original status.
Zaicheng did not have any biological sons. As the next in line to inherit his father's title, he adopted Puwei to carry on the princely lineage after Zaicheng’s death. Puwei succeeded Zaicheng as Prince Gong upon his death.
Zaicheng died at the age of 28 in June 1885. Posthumously, he was given the title "Prince Guomin of the Third Rank" in recognition of his status as Yixin’s eldest son.
