Rong Surong was a member of the Rong family of Liangxi, specifically the Chunyi branch of the prominent Rong Xitai clan. The Rong family, known as one of China's influential capitalist families and often referred to as 'Red Capitalists,' played a key role in modern Chinese industry. They established enterprises such as Baoxing, Fuxin, and Maoxin flour mills, as well as Zhenxin and Shenxin textile factories in Wuxi, Shanghai, and Hankou, at one time owning 12 flour mills and 9 textile factories across the country.
Rong Surong was one of the children of Rong Zongquan (styled Desheng). She married Li Guowei, thereby forming an alliance between the Rong and Li families. Further strengthening these ties, Li Guowei’s cousin, Li Mao, married Rong Surong’s relative, Rong Zhuoya.
As a member of the Rong family, Rong Surong not only carried forward the family’s industrial legacy but also enhanced the social and economic influence of the Rong and Li families through her marriage.
