Introduction

Angela Estree Lyssod D'Arcy Lascelles (née Dowding) was born on 20 April 1919 in Hanwell, London. She pursued her education at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Subsequently, she appeared in the West End production of Noël Coward's "Blithe Spirit" and appeared in the film "Miss London Ltd."

On 15 July 1952, she married Gerald David Lascelles, the second son of Mary, Princess Royal, and Countess of Harewood. Gerald Lascelles was a grandson of King George V and a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. The couple's relationship developed after they met at a party hosted by the Earl of Kimberley. At the time of their marriage, Gerald Lascelles was twelfth in the line of succession to the British throne. He was styled The Honourable, and Angela Dowding became The Honourable Mrs Gerald Lascelles.

The wedding took place at St. Margaret's, Westminster, with attendance from members of the British royal family, although the Queen was unable to attend due to a last-minute cold. The reception was held at St James's Palace and was attended by Queen Mary, the groom's maternal grandmother.

The couple had one child, Henry Ulick Lascelles, born on 19 May 1953 in London. Henry married twice and has one son. In 1955, the family relocated to Fort Belvedere in Surrey, a country estate previously owned by Edward VIII, the Duke of Windsor.

Angela Lascelles and Gerald Lascelles divorced in 1978. Gerald later married actress Elizabeth Colvin (née Collingwood). Following the divorce, Angela continued to reside in Windsor Great Park and maintained amicable relations with the royal family. She was regularly invited by the Queen to the Royal Enclosure at Ascot. Angela Lascelles remained unmarried after her divorce and died on 28 February 2007 in Virginia Water, Surrey.
