Introduction

Zhang Shan, born in 1958, is a native of Qingdao, Shandong Province. He studied at the Shandong Drama Theatre early in his career and was accepted into the theatre in 1976. In 1982, he entered the Central Academy of Drama, where he was classmates with Zhang Guangbei, He Zhengjun, and Ni Dahong. On the recommendation of Tang Guoqiang, Zhang Shan played a platoon leader in his first work, "Star on the Battlefield," which aired shortly afterward and marked his official entry into the entertainment industry.

After graduating from university in 1986, Zhang Shan was assigned to the Beijing Film Studio and became a professional actor in the studio's acting troupe. During this period, he appeared in supporting roles in several works, including "Robbers and the Black Swan," "Go, China Team," and "Yellow Villa," but did not gain widespread attention at first. In 1990, he participated in the filming of the major historical film "Guan Gong," playing the role of Guan Yu. The same year, leveraging his horseback riding skills, he was cast as Zhao Yun in the TV series "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," a role that received widespread acclaim and became one of his signature performances. A few years later, his portrayal of Zhao Yun in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" laid the foundation for his acting career, earning support and mentorship from senior actors like Chen Qiang.

After completing "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," Zhang Shan shifted focus to modern-themed dramas. In 1992, he played Zhao Gui in the TV series "Women Are Not the Moon," a role well-received due to its vivid character portrayal, earning awards for the series. In 1993, he appeared as the police station chief in the light comedy "Flying Fools," gradually expanding his range of performances. In 2002, his TV series "Granary of the World" aired on CCTV, in which he played Steward Pang Wang, garnering positive reviews. Subsequently, Zhang Shan continued to participate in numerous film and television projects, including "The Passionate Spirits: The Lone Guard" (2003), "Ming Dynasty 1449," and between 2006 and 2010, works such as "Red Banner," "The East Is Red 1949," and "Behind the Gun."

In 2011, he played Zhang Boli in the film "The Founding of a Republic," which was nominated for Best Story at the 31st Popular Film Hundred Flowers Awards and later received the Outstanding Story Award at the Huabiao Awards. In 2015, he took on important roles in the films "Love More Than Mountains" and the fantasy drama "Wu Xin: The Monster Killer." From 2016 to 2018, Zhang Shan showcased a variety of acting styles in TV dramas such as "Laozi Legend," "Ask Heaven Chronicles," "Ask Heaven Chronicles: Youth Zhong Kui," and "Ask Heaven Chronicles." In 2021, he appeared in the film "Shui Shui Yang Yang," and in 2022, he completed filming for "Visitor." He is scheduled to star in the TV drama "Snow Maze" in 2024.

Beyond film and television, Zhang Shan has also participated in variety shows, such as "Who Are You Coming" aired in 2020. His acting career spans movies, TV dramas, and variety programs, covering historical, modern, costume, and fantasy genres, with themes including history, war, and more.
