Introduction
The Queen Jingxiao (Respectful Filial Piety and Loyalty) of Borjigit clan, born in the 1620s and died in January 1650. Her original name is recorded by scholars as "Batuma," belonging to the Mongol Khorchin Banner, Sonomu League, daughter of a prince. Her biological mother is generally documented as the widow of the Khorchin Grand Princess. Her great-grandfather, Mangusi, died between 1623 and 1626. Her father, Sunamu, received her as his widow and accompanied Emperor Taiji on military campaigns; he died during the Jisi Incident.
Key points of her life are as follows: In the 7th year of the Tianshun era (1633), Dodo asked Emperor Taiji for the marriage of his daughter, whom he married to her sister Dazi. The following year, her brother Qitatar and her sister Zhe Zhe, as well as the third daughter born to Emperor Taiji, were betrothed. In the 9th year of Tianshun (1635), she married Dorgon. Researchers believe that after the Qing soldiers entered the pass, authorities, influenced by Confucian ethics, were somewhat wary of the matter of the Khorchin Grand Princess being taken as a consort, which led to modifications in related records and caused confusion regarding her biological paternity. Manchu archives record that in the 11th month of the Chongde era (1636), Emperor Taiji granted titles to his clan wives, promoting Batuma of the Khorchin Banner to the rank of Heshou IMSF (a senior noble consort).
Her younger sister was the Huo Ge Fuhou; after Huo Ge Fuhou passed away in the 5th year of Shunzhi (1648), her sister remarried Dorgon in the first month of the 7th year of Shunzhi (1649), becoming Dorgon's fifth consort.
Regarding her death and posthumous honors, Borjigit died in the 12th month of the 6th year of Shunzhi (January 1650) and was posthumously titled respectful filial piety, loyalty, filial, honorable, and proper main consort, with the posthumous name Yuanfei (Original Consort). Existing Manchu documents record this event. On the 9th day of the 12th month of the 7th year of Shunzhi (December 31, 1650), Dorgon died after falling from a horse. Emperor Shunzhi honored Dorgon posthumously as Chengzong Maode, Xiudao, Guangye, Dinggong, Anmin, establishing government, sincerity, respect, and righteousness, and bestowed the title Emperor. Borjigit was also posthumously honored as Jingxiao, Zhonggong, Jingjin, Jianci, Hui, and supportive virtues, reflecting her status as empress. In the 2nd month of the 8th year of Shunzhi (February 1651), Dorgon’s title was revoked, and Borjigit was also demoted to a commoner.
