Introduction
Pierson John Shirley Dixon, known as Piers Dixon, was born on 29 December 1928 and died on 24 March 2017. He was a British politician affiliated with the Conservative Party. Dixon served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Truro from 1970 to 1974.
Dixon was the son of Sir Pierson Dixon, who was a diplomat and writer. His education included attendance at Eton College, Magdalene College, Cambridge, and Harvard Business School. Prior to his political career, he worked professionally as a stockbroker.
In the political realm, Dixon contested the Brixton constituency during the 1966 general election. He was subsequently elected as MP for Truro in the 1970 general election. He was re-elected in the February 1974 election. However, he lost his parliamentary seat to the Liberal candidate David Penhaligon in the October 1974 general election by a margin of 464 votes, equivalent to 0.8%. Following his defeat, no Conservative MP represented Truro until 2010 when Sarah Newton regained the seat from the Liberal Democrats.
Dixon's political activities included membership in the Monday Club and the Bow Group, organizations involved in Conservative politics.
Regarding personal life, Dixon was married four times. His first marriage was to Edwina Sandys, a sculptor and daughter of Duncan Sandys and Diana Churchill. With Sandys, he had two sons, named Mark and Hugo. His second marriage was to Janet, Countess of Cowley. In 1984, Dixon married Anne Cronin, daughter of J.D. Cronin, a former Labour MP, and they had one son, Alexander. His fifth and final marriage was to Ann Mavroleon, daughter of John Davenport, in 1994.
Piers Dixon passed away at the age of 88 in March 2017.
