Liu Li

Liu Li, born in 1926, died in 2023 and was 97 years old. A memorial service was held for him at the North Point Funeral Parlour in Hong Kong. In his earlier years he worked as a firefighter and later opened the "Desheng Si Do" snack and grocery store to support his family. His family included six children; Andy Lau was his eldest son and the fourth-born child. He also had three older sisters, one younger sister and one younger brother.

In 2003 Liu Li was diagnosed with bladder cancer and underwent surgery at a public hospital to remove bladder tumors. After recovery his health remained stable for more than twenty years. His experience with cancer also affected his son Andy Lau, who participated in the filming of "Tong Meng Qi Yuan" (童梦奇缘) to express his understanding of and concern for the father–son relationship.

Liu Li passed away on November 20, 2023. Andy Lau announced his father's death on his official website "Huazai Tiandi" and switched the site to black-and-white as a sign of mourning. The funeral was held on December 5 as a private ceremony; friends and relatives were able to pay their respects that afternoon from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and an online condolence channel for "Huazai Tiandi" members was opened from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On December 6 at noon the coffin was taken to the Cape Collinson Crematorium for cremation.

Liu Li’s passing drew condolences from friends in the industry, including Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung, Hu Feng, Ye Zhentang and Yang Shaohong, who sent wreaths to express their sympathies. During the memorial, Andy Lau held a birthday-style remembrance for his father, showing the deep affection within the family.

Liu Li’s life encompassed a variety of professions and a diverse life path; his family life was full and his children achieved notable success. His death became a significant event in Hong Kong’s entertainment and social circles.
