Introduction
Feiyanggu (Manchu: ᡶ᠋ᡳᠶᠠᠩᡤᡡ, Möllendorf transliteration: Fiyanggū; 1620 (Tianming Fifth Year, October) — 1640s?), also written as Fe Yanggu, was the sixteenth son of Nurhaci and the youngest son.
Life
Feiyanggu was born in October 1620; his biological mother's name is not recorded. The "Veritable Records of the Grand Ancestor of the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Taizu of the Qing" written during the Tiancong and Chongde periods did not list Feiyanggu among Nurhaci's descendants. Modern scholar Du Jiajun points out that female slaves or concubines born to royal males are not counted as concubines, so Feiyanggu's mother may have been a slave. During the reign of Hong Taiji, Feiyanggu was executed for a crime, and his clan affiliation was removed. The specific crime is not known, but later speculation suggests it might have been conspiracy or illicit relations with a concubine, which could result in the execution of a younger brother. In the fifty-second year of Kangxi (1713), Feiyanggu's great-grandson, a third-rank attendant guard Ni Yaha, requested the restoration of his clan affiliation, which was approved by the Circumscriptions Court. That July, an edict stated, "Fearing that his descendants might perish," and a red waistband was bestowed as a mark, later recorded at the end of the jade genealogical record.
