Rong Yizhen, born in the lunar August of 1918 in Rongxiang, Wuxi, was the eighth daughter of the renowned Chinese industrialist Rong Desheng, affectionately known as 'Miss Eight.' She received her early education at the family-run Jingzhi Primary School, later attending Shanghai Zhongxi Girls’ School and St. John’s University, where she excelled academically, spoke fluent English, and demonstrated exceptional skills in mathematics as well as early leadership abilities.

In 1943, Rong Yizhen married Hu Ruxi, a graduate of Fudan University and a fourth-generation nephew of Hu Xueyan of the renowned Hu Qingyu Hall. On the eve of the founding of the People’s Republic, she chose to remain in China with her children and persuaded her husband to return as well, committing the family to the nation’s reconstruction. Thereafter, she and her husband worked and lived in Wuxi and Shanghai for decades.

During the Cultural Revolution, Rong Yizhen suffered repeated persecution by rebel groups, being driven from her home more than ten times and forced to endure extremely harsh living conditions. Despite these hardships, she remained steadfast in her beliefs, encouraging her children to study and work hard, and maintaining unwavering faith in the Communist Party and the socialist path.

After the founding of New China, Rong Yizhen actively engaged in social and civic affairs, becoming a member of the China Democratic National Construction Association and later serving as Vice Chairwoman of the Jing’an District CPPCC in Shanghai. She dedicated herself selflessly to society, donating more than one million yuan over her lifetime. She also helped establish and manage the 'June 1st Nursery' to support local families, earning her the affectionate title 'Sister Rong' from the community.

Throughout her life, Rong Yizhen embodied patriotism, resilience, and generosity. Even into her 80s, she continued to work tirelessly until she passed away at her post. Her numerous awards, certificates, and honors remain as a testament to her lifelong contributions and as a source of admiration from both her family and society.
